You do not have to wait until Election Day to make your voice heard. Rhode Island voters may request a mail ballot and vote from home in the September 9 primary.

Who Can Vote in the Republican Primary?
Registered Republicans
Voters registered as Republicans will receive a Republican primary ballot.
Unaffiliated voters
Unaffiliated or independent Rhode Island voters may select a Republican ballot when applying or voting in the primary.
Voters affiliated with another party
Voters affiliated with another political party may only vote in that party's primary unless they changed or removed their party affiliation by the August 10 deadline.
Apply in Three Simple Steps
Choose online or paper
Apply through Rhode Island's official online system or download the official paper application.
Complete the application
- Online applicants will need a valid Rhode Island driver's license or state ID, their name as it appears on the voter rolls and their date of birth.
- Unaffiliated voters who want to participate in the Republican primary should select "Republican Ballot."
- Any registered voter may select Category 4: "I choose to vote by mail."
- A paper application must be completed using a black or blue pen and must contain the voter's handwritten signature. Electronic signatures are not accepted.
Return the application
A paper application must be returned directly to the voter's local Board of Canvassers. Do not return a completed application to the Skoly campaign.

Deadline to register to vote or change party affiliation for the primary.
- August 19 · 4 p.m.
Deadline for the local Board of Canvassers to receive a regular mail-ballot application.
- Aug 20 – Sep 8 · 4 p.m.
Early voting and emergency mail-ballot period.
- September 9
Republican Primary Day.
- September 9 · 8 p.m.
Deadline for the Rhode Island Board of Elections or an authorized election drop box to receive completed mail ballots.

Need Help?
Campaign volunteers can help you locate official voting information, but they cannot complete, sign or submit your application for you.
When Your Ballot Arrives
- Carefully review both sides of your ballot.
- Vote for Stephen "Doc" Skoly.
- Place the ballot in the voter's mail-ballot certificate envelope.
- Print and sign your name where required.
- Place the certificate envelope in the postage-paid return envelope and return it promptly.
Do not wait until Election Day to mail your ballot. Rhode Island recommends allowing at least seven mailing days. Voters may also use an authorized election drop box.
