Dr. Stephen T. Skoly is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon who has practiced in Rhode Island since 1988.
For nearly four decades he has treated Rhode Island patients, built and run a small business, employed Rhode Islanders, and delivered care in hospitals, correctional facilities, and programs serving the state's most vulnerable patients. His service has included Eleanor Slater Hospital, Zambarano Hospital, the Rhode Island Training School, the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, the Wyatt Detention Facility, and the RIte Smiles program.
His work has extended well beyond private practice. Dr. Skoly has taken part in international medical and humanitarian projects through USAID/SIDIM, testified on healthcare policy, and advocated at the Rhode Island State House on constitutional issues.
He joined the Board of the Rhode Island Center for Freedom & Prosperity in late 2017 and was selected as chairman in July 2018. He served as chairman until January 2026, when he stepped down to run for Congress.
Dr. Skoly earned his undergraduate degree from Assumption University, where he has served on the Board of Trustees, and his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Connecticut. He completed a general practice residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and advanced training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Illinois.
When the state shut down his surgical practice during the COVID-era healthcare-worker mandate dispute, Dr. Skoly did not fold. He challenged the government and fought for his patients, his employees, and the principle that medical decisions belong between a patient and a physician.
This is Dr. Skoly's first campaign for elected office. He is running because Rhode Island's Second Congressional District needs a representative who understands what government decisions actually do in the real world, to patients, families, taxpayers, employers, and workers.
